I was going through some old pictures, and I came across pictures of the Beer Bistro where Brian brought me for my birthday. I remember we went to Montreal the previous weekend and went to this amazing French restaurant, and that was when we fell in love with mussels, so when we got back we had to find a comparable place. The only place we found in Toronto that had a large selection of mussels was Beer Bistro. This is one of my favourite places to have mussels (other than cooking them at home now).

We started with two soups. Roasted Red Pepper and Tomato Soup with white cheddar beer croutons. This soup was amazing, the croutons really completed the soup. However it was very thick, therefore very filling.

We also ordered some Belgian frites for starters. These came with smoked ketchup and home-made mayo.

Brian ordered the Belgian White Mussels (blanche de chambly, garlic, parsley, lemon, cream) and I ordered Blue Blonde Mussels (ermite blue cheese, a igem blonde, pears, spinach, leeks & a touch of cream). Both were very good, and they were served in a bowl that divided the mussels and the sauce so we could dip the bread as well. I can now make the Belgian White Mussels at home, but the Blue Blonde mussels were great. It did have a very strong blue cheese flavour, and some people may not like that.
The Mussels also came with a loaf of sour dough bread which was great for dipping.

Overall, one of my favourites!
