1000 Tastes of Toronto

Posted: June 20, 2010

Today Brian and I went to 1000 Tastes of Toronto with our friends Dean and GQ. This event was at Queen's Park and consisted of different booths of restaurants with dishes priced at $5 each. Brian and I ended up purchasing 6 different plates, these include Oysters, Poutine, Fried Risotto balls, Lamb with couscous, Fruit Smoothie, Mushroom & Cheese Wrap (I forgot the actual names of these dishes). Below are pictures of some of the foods we came along, everything we ate was really good. I wish there were more food festivals in Toronto like this.

Today we ate at Niji Sushi. We ordered Soft Shelled Crab, Sashimi Combo, and Sushi Combo. What's great about this place is that they have a ton of complementary small dishes before the meal. We were given salad, a small portion of Japanese congee, miso soup, edamame, Japanese tofu, and seaweed with their house sauce. Good price for the portion!

Z-Teca

Posted: June 11, 2010

Yesterday for dinner Brian and I went to Z-Teca for dinner. We purchased these gift certificate cards earlier on www.teambuy.ca this month, it was $10 for a $20 gift card (so we purchased 3 hehe). We ordered two Beef Barbacoa burritos, and one order of chicken nachos. This place is very similar to Chipotle on Yonge and Dundas, but we liked this place better :)

Tonight for dinner, my sister, her husband and I went to Kenzo Ramen. It was really good, better than those franchise ramen places such as Ajisen. Kenzo is more authentic.

Favourite chinese dessert place?
Definitely Double Ming's at Midland and Finch. I only come here when mangos are in season because that's when they have my favourite dessert, Mango with Sago! Delicious!

Sushi BBQ

Thursday I had lunch with my sister at this place called "Sushi BBQ" at Yonge and Wellesley. I've been here several times before, and my sister Susan seemed to enjoy it as well. Pretty good bento boxes! We ordered the one with sushi and tempura.

Marble Slab Creamery

Posted: June 2, 2010

After dinner, Brian and I had a sudden craving for ice cream. It was like 9:30 and Marble Slab Creamery on Queen St. East closed at 10:00pm. So we rushed over ordered a quart of white chocolate ice cream with strawberries, brought it home and ate it while watching Dear John. We tried the Marble Slab on Yonge and Dundas before as well, it's our favourite place for Ice Cream!

Beer Bistro

Posted June 1, 2010

Beer Bistro
18 King Street East
Toronto, ON M5C 1C4
(416) 861-9872

I was going through some old pictures, and I came across pictures of the Beer Bistro where Brian brought me for my birthday. I remember we went to Montreal the previous weekend and went to this amazing French restaurant, and that was when we fell in love with mussels, so when we got back we had to find a comparable place. The only place we found in Toronto that had a large selection of mussels was Beer Bistro. This is one of my favourite places to have mussels (other than cooking them at home now).

We started with two soups. Roasted Red Pepper and Tomato Soup with white cheddar beer croutons. This soup was amazing, the croutons really completed the soup. However it was very thick, therefore very filling.

We also ordered some Belgian frites for starters. These came with smoked ketchup and home-made mayo.

Brian ordered the Belgian White Mussels (blanche de chambly, garlic, parsley, lemon, cream) and I ordered Blue Blonde Mussels (ermite blue cheese, a igem blonde, pears, spinach, leeks & a touch of cream). Both were very good, and they were served in a bowl that divided the mussels and the sauce so we could dip the bread as well. I can now make the Belgian White Mussels at home, but the Blue Blonde mussels were great. It did have a very strong blue cheese flavour, and some people may not like that.
The Mussels also came with a loaf of sour dough bread which was great for dipping.

Overall, one of my favourites!
